Bosnian Immigrant Purchases 135 Year Old Company in Des Moines

Since 1882, Rowat Cut Stone & Marble Co. has served Iowa and its surrounding states with the best natural cut stone. Rowat distributes, fabricates and installs a wide variety of natural cut stone including natural granite, limestone, marble and quartz.



Founded by John Rowat in 1882, Rowat Cut Stone & Marble Co. is one of the oldest businesses in Des Moines – and still operates out of what is now one of the oldest buildings on the east side of the city.


On June 30th, the company has welcomed its new owner, Bosnian immigrant, Adis Halilovic.


Halilovic has moved to United States in early 2000's with his mother and brother. He has worked for the company for 12 years.


Halilvovic purchased the company from Teresa Van Vleet-Danos, Teresa Vleet-Danos has owned the company since 1984 after she purchased it from the Rowat family.


 According to Halilovic, he is planning on keeping its historic name.


Rowat Cut Stone & Marble Co, 369 Hakes Drive in Norwalk, IA 


Rowat Cut Stone & Marble Co will be moving from its historic location to a 12,000-square-foot warehouse that sits on two acres at 369 Hakes Drive in a business district on the south side Norwalk. The official move date is set for July 31st, 2017.


Halilovic stated that the company currently has 13 full time employees.  The company specializes in natural stone, granite, marble, guartzite, guartz and tile. It is one of only few companies that does interior and exterior limestone. A showroom is available for customers during business hours.
